John Fury steals the spotlight again during fight week for Tyson Fury’s heavyweight title bout with Oleksandr Usyk.
Originally set for February, the fight was postponed when “The Gypsy King” suffered a nasty cut during sparring. Now, Fury and Usyk are ready to face off this Saturday at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Throughout his career, Fury’s unique personality has shone through, and recently, his father John has also made waves at media events. However, this week, John Fury may have crossed a serious line when he headbutted a member of Usyk’s team.
The intense exchange, with each group chanting for their fighters, seemed to calm down. But as John Fury walked away, a member of Usyk’s team tried to reignite the chant and was met with a vicious headbutt.
John Fury appeared largely unfazed by the impact but did open up a cut on his head, leading to a confused reaction from his son Tyson when he saw his father afterward.
“The Gypsy King” didn’t seem particularly concerned by his father’s actions, but with fight week just starting in Saudi Arabia, it remains to be seen how this altercation will affect the week’s events.
As long as nothing else derails the fight, Fury and Usyk will face off on Saturday in a highly-anticipated contest. One will suffer the first loss of their professional boxing career, while the other will emerge as the sport’s undisputed heavyweight king.
