Tyson Fury’s Father’s Controversial Role in His Son’s Crushing Defeat. What Sparked the Outrage?

In his first professional career defeat, Tyson Fury was beaten by Ukrainian fighter Usyk by split decision, crowning Usyk as the undisputed heavyweight champion. The tense match took place in Saudi Arabia, with Usyk narrowly winning on Saturday night.

Both fighters were confident, and as the fight reached the final round, Fury’s corner warned him not to make mistakes. One coach advised, “Don’t cross your legs, be ready to punch. Don’t hesitate to slip in, don’t back away, or you’ll get caught.”

Despite his confidence, two judges scored in favor of Usyk, and Fury needed a decisive punch to win. Fans have since criticized Fury’s corner, including his father, John Fury, for what they deemed poor advice.

Fan comments highlighted questionable decisions from Fury’s team: “His corner completely misjudged. It could have been different if they told him he was losing in the final rounds,” reported Mirror. Another fan expressed disappointment: “Terrible from his corner!” A third pointed out: “Fury’s dad completely contradicted the head trainer.”

After the fight, Tyson Fury maintained that he felt he had won most rounds, and there is now speculation about a rematch, with a clause already set for such a scenario.

“I believe I won that fight. I think he won a few rounds, but I won the majority, and I think it’s one of those boxing decisions that you can’t do anything about. We both did our best, but make no mistake, I won that fight, in my opinion, and I will be back. I have a rematch clause,” Fury stated.

An incident before the match also saw Fury’s father involved in an altercation, headbutting Stanislav Stepchuk, a member of Usyk’s team. The conflict escalated until security intervened, leaving John Fury with a bloody face from a cut.

Following the loss, questions arose about Fury’s return to the ring, but the 35-year-old fighter affirmed his passion for the sport and readiness to continue.
