In mid-2020, representatives from both Fury and Joshua came very close to agreeing on a match for the “classic British boxing civil war” between these two excellent fighters. In the latest developments, promoter Eddie Hearn has even revealed the fight purse that Joshua and Fury will receive when they clash.
“The purse? You’re talking about £100 million for each fighter, and that could very well be the minimum. Yes, it will certainly be the highest-paid fight in heavyweight boxing history,” Eddie Hearn disclosed in an interview on the Uncensored program with renowned journalist Piers Morgan.
“We (Matchroom Boxing) are pushing the negotiations and preparing everything for Anthony Joshua. Of course, we will receive a percentage of Joshua’s fight purse. The figure will be around 10%.”
If Eddie Hearn’s revelation is accurate, the Joshua-Fury fight will bring in a fight purse of £100 million (equivalent to approximately $126.5 million) for each boxer, not including other shares such as bonuses and especially pay-per-view revenue.
Clearly, this purse – totaling $200 million – is more than enough to make the Joshua-Fury showdown the most expensive heavyweight boxing match in history. Remember, even the upcoming classic unification bout between Fury and Usyk has a total purse of about £116 million, equivalent to $150 million.
