Even though Roman Reigns had to endure ups and downs for WWE, in the end, he still proved his ability to carry the company.
After Roman Reigns’ disastrous boycott in the period 2015-2018, Roman Reigns has revived his image and gradually become the representative face of WWE in the future.
The illness was well hidden
Ahead of the 2018 Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, Roman Reigns was scheduled for a three-way match between himself, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar to defend the Universal Championship. But during an episode of RAW, he appeared and announced to fans a shocking incident: he would have to take a break from competition to treat leukemia.
He has had to quietly fight this cruel disease since he was diagnosed in 2007 while still playing rugby. His first remission was two years after diagnosis. But in 2018, the disease suddenly relapsed, forcing him to give up his responsibilities with the company to continue treatment.
Whether you hate or support Roman Reigns, the fact that he had to retire in the middle of an ongoing storyline has made it more or less difficult for WWE, especially when it comes to filling the void he left behind.
Comeback
But just as suddenly as he retired from the ring, in February 2019 on RAW, Roman Reigns returned to the ring. He announced that he had entered the recovery phase to the cheers of the audience.
With this comeback, the fans’ hatred has decreased significantly since he branched out into singles. The support for him is also more natural, because after many years of perseverance and patience, from an inexperienced person he has become a leader in the dressing room and is more comfortable expressing himself in front of the audience.
