YouTuber KSI has been making waves in the celebrity boxing scene for a few years now, and he has set his sights on none other than Floyd Mayweather. The legendary undefeated boxer, who has taken on several high-profile exhibition matches since his retirement, has won millions for his efforts. A fight between KSI and Mayweather would undoubtedly attract significant attention. However, KSI’s motivation for this bout runs deeper than mere spectacle.
According to KSI’s trainer, Alexis Demetriades, there is personal animosity between KSI and Mayweather stemming from an incident involving KSI’s brother, Deji. In a 2022 exhibition match in Dubai, Mayweather faced Deji, but what was supposed to be a light-hearted exhibition turned into something much more intense. Despite being repeatedly warned that he was taking it too seriously, Mayweather ignored the advice and fought aggressively. This has left KSI with a personal vendetta.
Demetriades shared with The Sun: “There’s a personal issue there with Deji; JJ’s upset with Mayweather. They changed the gloves from 14oz to 10oz on the night, paid him extra for it, and one of Mayweather’s camp told Deji, ‘If it gets too heated, tell Floyd to calm down because it’s an exhibition.’ But when Deji tried, Mayweather was like, ‘F*** you. I’m Floyd Mayweather,’ and went all out. That’s JJ’s little brother, so there’s animosity and a real appetite for that fight from JJ. He thinks Mayweather is a p***k and wants to take him down. It’s crazy to say, but this YouTuber genuinely wants to fight Floyd Mayweather.”
The way Mayweather treated Deji during their fight was seen as despicable by many, especially since he forced Deji to wear 10oz gloves instead of the agreed-upon 14oz ones. This treatment has only fueled KSI’s desire to confront Mayweather and try to teach him a lesson.
As expected, the 50-0 boxing legend has not responded, but he likely had a good laugh at how much he’s gotten under KSI’s skin. Mayweather is known for thriving on animosity, and this challenge from KSI is right up his alley. However, KSI might not fully appreciate the gravity of challenging one of the greatest boxers in history. Nevertheless, these are exactly the type of fights that Mayweather loves due to all the built-up tension.
