Arsenal have been dealt a major injury blow after Kieran Tierney was forced off during Scotland’s epic clash with Spain on Tuesday night. The defender required medical treatment late in the second-half and was eventually replaced by Liam Copper on the 76th minute. Unfortunately, it’s understood the former Celtic star sustained a calf knock which has curtailed his evening for the Scots and will be a big worry for Mikel Arteta as Arsenal chase their first Premier League title in almost two decades.
Kieran Tierney has found game time hard to come by at the Gunners this season, but was outstanding for Steve Clarke’s men during a famous night at Hampden. Tierney embarked on a sensational run down the left-hand flank to set up Scott McTominay’s second on the 51st minute as the Scots took a 2-0 lead over Spain.
Unfortunately, he was unable to see out the game as he required medical treatment and was eventually replaced by Liam Cooper. Earlier, Rodri, the captain of Spain, a Man City player, had a dangerous tackle on Tierney.
Rodri also made a dangerous foul on Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard during the match between Spain and Norway.
The injury means that Tierney is unlikely to be available for selection as Arsenal host Leeds United at the Emirates this Saturday. The news of Tierney’s injury will come as a major blow to Mikel Arteta’s plans as they attempt to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners have been in sensational form this season and have looked unbeatable in recent weeks, but the loss of Tierney could be a major setback.
It’s a tough time for Arsenal and Tierney, but they will be hoping the Scot recovers quickly and can return to help the club secure their first Premier League title in almost two decades.
