Behind Haaland in the top 3 are tennis player Novak Djokovic and golfer Lydia Ko. In the top 10 rankings of Twenty First Group, there are two other football players, Alexia Putellas, the owner of the 2022 Women’s Golden Ball title, and Mohamed Salah, the key striker of Liverpool.
Twenty First Group’s ranking was also revealed: ” This ranking is based on the superiority of athletes’ performance over the best individuals in all of the world’s sports” .
AS assesses Haaland’s victory is not surprising. The Norwegian striker is having the best season of his career in a Man City shirt . He is a bright candidate for the title of Premier League and Champions League top scorer with 35 and 12 goals, respectively. The former Dortmund star is also a strong candidate to win the European Golden Shoe title in the 2022/23 season.
On May 12, Haaland also won the Player of the Season award by the British Journalists Association (FWA). The Norwegian striker’s vote accounted for 82% of the 400 votes cast by members of the FWA. Behind Haaland are Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard (with Arsenal), Kevin de Bruyne (Man City) and Marcus Rashford (MU).
