Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland are two of the most exciting young talents in world football. They have been friends for some time now, having first met at the Under-20 World Cup in 2019. However, their friendship really blossomed when they played together for Man City during the 2022/23 season. In an exclusive interview, Julian Alvarez talked about his time playing alongside Haaland and how their friendship developed during their time at the club.
Alvarez began by discussing how excited he was to join Man City and play alongside Haaland. “When I found out that Man City was interested in signing me, I was over the moon,” he said. “To have the opportunity to play for such a great club and alongside such great players was a dream come true. And to have Erling there as well made it even better.”
Haaland and Alvarez quickly struck up a friendship off the pitch, bonding over their shared love of music and their similar backgrounds. “We both come from footballing families, so we had a lot to talk about,” Alvarez said. “We also share a passion for music, and we would often listen to music together in the dressing room or on the team bus.”
Their friendship translated onto the pitch, with the two players combining to score many important goals for the team. Haaland’s power and pace were a perfect complement to Alvarez’s technical ability and creativity, and they quickly became one of the most feared attacking duos in world football.
“Playing with Erling was amazing,” Alvarez said. “He’s such a talented player and a great person off the pitch as well. We had a great understanding on the pitch, and we always knew where each other was going to be. It was an incredible experience to play alongside him.”
