The cancellation of the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson scheduled for July 20 did not derail the boxer and YouTuber’s plans. He still intends to step into the ring on the same day, albeit with a new opponent to fulfill his commitment ahead of his bout with ‘Iron Mike’ on November 15.
Paul’s new opponent is Mike Perry, former UFC fighter and current Bare Knuckle Fighting (BKFC) champion. They will clash in an eight-round bout at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
“He is a proven knockout artist who is crazy in and out of the ring. This was the perfect experience for me before I faced Mike Tyson. But having that experience comes with risks,” Paul told ESPN. “Those who know me know I’m a risk taker and while Perry ‘Platinum’ may try to take me down, I’m Jake Paul Titanium and I’m not afraid of anyone.”
Perry has long sought a fight with Paul and expressed his fierce rivalry with the YouTuber during an appearance on TMZ Sports. “We were never friends. He was never good to me, he wanted to hit me, and he was a cunning little snake. I’ll disappoint him by pulling his teeth out of his mouth. Fuck them, Jake. I’ll break your face, you bastard.”
Since leaving the UFC, Perry joined BKFC, where he has become the biggest star with an undefeated 5-0 record, including wins over notable names such as Luke Rockhold and Michael ‘Venom’ Page.
