In a surprising turn of events, some of WWE’s biggest names have opposed the idea of The Rock winning the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40.
During the post-Royal Rumble edition of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes hinted he might not face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, despite previously declaring his intention to challenge the Tribal Chief. The Rock’s return during the segment suggested he might face his cousin in Philadelphia.
For a few days, it seemed likely that The Rock would face Roman Reigns while Cody Rhodes would challenge then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins. However, it was unlikely that The Rock would end Reigns’ historic title reign.
Reports from Dave Meltzer indicate that WWE’s top brass, including Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque and Roman Reigns, were against The Rock ending Reigns’ four-year reign. They believed fans would not appreciate a part-timer like The Rock concluding Reigns’ monumental title run.
In response, the ‘We Want Cody’ movement gained momentum, leading to Cody Rhodes being reinserted into the title picture and capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40.
On the following Raw, The Rock vowed to return to WWE to confront Rhodes once he finishes filming his latest movie, The Smashing Machine. Fans eagerly anticipate what’s next in this electrifying saga.
