At Ninewells Hospital in the Scottish city of Dundee, Peter Robson, 70, who had been battling cystic fibrosis, passed away on Thursday. However, the nurses fulfilled his final desire. A grin returned to his face as his best buddy paid him a special visit as he took his final breaths.
To grant Peter’s last wish—to see his tiny dog Shep one final time—the nurses made an exception to their “no pets” rule.
Border Collie named Shep has been Peter’s constant friend since the passing of his wife eight years ago. Peter, though, believed that he might never see Shep again after being taken to the hospital.
Ashley Stevens, his granddaughter, was present with her family as Shep was transported to the hospital to bid Peter farewell.
Ashley wrote on Facebook:
“Our grandfather’s last and final desire was to see his dog one more time, and NHS Ninewells hospital has absolutely astounded and delighted him today. Still in disbelief, the request was fulfilled, and today they went above and above to bring joy to a guy who is dying.”
“Ward 3 Charge Nurse Cheryl White, you are an incredible angel, and we are all sincerely appreciative that you understand how much this meant to our grandfather. Thank you NHS; I’ll let these moments speak for themselves. Please spread the word so that everyone is aware of the hospital’s outstanding personnel and nurses.
Unfortunately, Ashley’s grandfather passed away later that day. Although her family will undoubtedly experience unimaginable pain at his passing, it is absolutely lovely that her final desire was fulfilled.

I’m delighted the staff was able to grant this desire since simple gestures like this may mean the world to patients and their families.
