In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, a heavily pregnant Jack Russell terrier was discovered abandoned in a cardboard box under a bush, covered in fleas and maggots. The dog, later named Penny, was found by a kind-hearted dog walker on april 26 in a field behind Bagshot Road in Surrey.
Penny’s condition was extremely concerning, and the RSPCA was immediately contacted to provide assistance. Upon arrival, the animal welfare organization discovered that Penny was severely malnourished and had a severe infestation of fleas and maggots. To make matters worse, the dog was carrying six puppies, and her labor began shortly after being rescued. Sadly, all of her puppies did not survive.
The RSPCA Millbrook Animal Center took Penny in, providing her with much-needed medical attention and round-the-clock care. They worked tirelessly to nurse her back to health, and over time, Penny slowly began to regain her strength.
It was later revealed that Penny was abandoned due to the fear of an increase in animal abandonment during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a sad reminder of the devastating effects that the pandemic has had on both humans and animals alike.
Thankfully, Penny’s story has a happy ending. After receiving the necessary treatment and care, she has been adopted by a loving family who is giving her the love and attention she deserves. Her resilience and bravery throughout the entire ordeal have captured the hearts of many animal lovers, who are now rallying for stricter laws and regulations to protect animals from abandonment and abuse.
The incident highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for stricter animal welfare laws to prevent such atrocities from occurring in the future. By reporting incidents of animal cruelty and neglect, we can help ensure that animals like Penny are given the care and love they deserve.
