Recently, an extremely unusual two-headed, six-legged diamond turtle was discovered in the residential area of West Barnstable, Massachusetts (USA).
Researchers discovered turtle eggs in a nest in the residential area of West Barnstable, Massachusetts (USA). They found the nest in a dangerous position and needed to be relocated.
After the eggs hatched, they were surprised to see a turtle body with two heads and six legs. The rare diamond turtle has two independent heads, two separate respiratory tracts and two separate digestive systems to digest food for the body.
Immediately, they sent the rare two-headed turtle to the Birdsey Cape wildlife center in Barnstable, Massachusetts, USA. The center’s staff named the two heads of the turtle Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, after American twins who are actors and fashion designers
The fact that this turtle has such unusual two heads may be the result of genetic and environmental influences. These animals usually do not live long or are in poor health.
However, according to staff at the Birdsey Cape wildlife center in Barnstable, Massachusetts, USA, the two-headed turtle in Birdsey Cape is currently in good health and eating very well, mainly worms and pellets.
Center veterinarian Pria Patel and other staff will continue to monitor the turtle in the coming weeks. They hope to perform a CT scan to learn more about its circulatory system.
