Brian Gewirtz, The Rock’s business partner and WWE writer, has recently shared behind-the-scenes details of WrestleMania 40. Gewirtz has been outspoken about The Rock’s heel turn and his alliance with Roman Reigns before the big event.
In a shocking revelation, Gewirtz disclosed why he opposed Cody Rhodes winning the WWE Royal Rumble 2024. Prior to The Rock’s WWE return on January 1, 2024, a crucial meeting took place in San Diego. Gewirtz, The Rock, Triple H, and Nick Khan convened to discuss WrestleMania 40’s main event, endorsing a headliner featuring Roman Reigns and The Rock. However, Cody’s Rumble win remained a contentious topic.
Gewirtz explained his concerns on Busted Open Radio. He believed that Cody winning the Rumble and headlining WrestleMania would complicate the storyline, overshadowing the anticipated Rock vs. Roman match. Instead, Gewirtz suggested CM Punk should win the Rumble and challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, clearing the path for The Rock vs. Roman.
“The idea of Cody winning the Rumble was problematic,” Gewirtz stated. He argued that a Rumble win would solidify Cody’s claim to the main event, changing fan dynamics and diluting the Rock-Roman narrative.
Despite Gewirtz’s objections, Triple H and Nick Khan retained Cody’s Rumble win, aiming to keep both storyline possibilities open. The WWE Universe’s support for Cody, embodied in the #WewantCody movement, propelled him back to the main event. Ultimately, Cody triumphed over Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, marking a significant chapter in WWE history.
